Dr. Aleem Ahmed Khan is Scientist and Head at Centre for Liver Research and Diagnostics, Deccan College of Medical Sciences, Kanchanbagh, Hyderabad. He is Ph. D in Life sciences (1998) from Osmania University, Hyderabad. He is recipient of prestigious award “Bharat Sikha Ratan” (2015) and several others. He has done pioneering work on hepatic stem cell-based therapeutic strategies in the treatment of acute and cirrhotic liver failure patients. Since more than two decades, very promisingly he has put his basic as well as clinical efforts in various clinical trials using stem cells more specifically in liver diseases. During his extensive research career he has supervised more than 10 Ph. D students in various areas and honored to publish more than 150 research articles in reputed national and international journals such as Plos Biology, PlosOne, Scientific Reports, Material Science & Engineering C, Frontiers in Biotechnology & Bioengineering, Cell Transplantation, Cytotherapy, Transplantation Proceedings, Frontiers in Immunology, Cellular Immunology, European Journal of Immunology, and Gene etc. He has written seven book chapters and two patents granted and 9 applied to his name. He is also the part of several esteemed Basic & Clinical Research National & International Societies. Recently, he is involved in developing innovative technologies such as development of bio-artificial transplantable humanized neo-livers to manage liver failure and neo-endocrine organs for managing uncontrolled diabetes mellitus. Along with bio-artificial organ development, he is also involved in developing unique nanoformulation of anti-cancer drugs for treating resistant cancer cells.
